An antique fairytale water spirit marionette

This antique marionette is a really an original piece. It is carved from linden wood, the hat and dress are made of original fabrics. Notice the his bulging eyes, which seemed to tempt you to follow him into the water. His hat, jacket and trousers, which are studded with fringe and detailed decoration, serve as protection from the sun. The details on his face such as his beard, his shoes and even his fingernails are hand carved and painted. This work of art will certainly stand out in every collection.

Karel Krob

Karel Krob (1904 - 1974) originally trained as a shoemaker, but from a young age he was fascinated by the puppetry world. That is why he also devoted all his free time to carving and making marionettes. He continued the tradition of Czech puppeteers, because he carved marionettes as he remembered them from the marionette shows of his childhood. Initially, he made marionettes only for the pleasure of his children, acquaintances and friends. Later, he carved marionettes for puppet ensembles, including the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theater. Today, his works are represented in a number of museum and private collections and puppet ensembles.

My 17 year old daughter absolutely adores Annie! As she said, “She’s not just a doll—she’s a work of art!” This is an exquisite marionette. Obviously made with great artistry and attention to detail. Beyond lovely!
